Word dictionary

The 48,493-word dictionary combines the public-domain ENABLE spelling lexicon with entries in the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary. Words contain three to twelve letters. Word Pileup uses spelling conditions, not pronunciation rules. See the retained CMU license notice and ENABLE documentation.

Category lists

Current NFL team names were checked against the NFL’s official team list. NBA names were checked against NBA Cares’ team list. State names follow USAGov, excluding territories and the District of Columbia.

Other categories use curated familiar names with explicit aliases. Brand names identify familiar products and companies, not verified trademark registrations. Word Pileup is not affiliated with or endorsed by the leagues, teams, or brands named in its prompts.

Brand-name coverage

The expanded brand directory combines our original familiar brands with names and listed aliases from Simple Icons, plus consumer brands checked against official portfolios from P&G, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Nestle, Unilever, and The Wonderful Company. FIJI Water and FIJI are accepted aliases. Only names are used, without brand logos. The directory is broad, but does not contain every brand.

Presentation

The stepped mark and autumn landscape are original vector drawings. Trees, title letters, clouds, and leaves use CSS animation with a pause control and reduced-motion support. Interface icons use Lucide. The site uses system fonts, React, the Sites Vinext starter, and Cloudflare D1 for shared scores.
