About Word Pileup

Word Pileup is a daily word game with two modes. In Word Pileup, you enter words that follow an increasing number of spelling rules. In Category Trail, you name things that fit a changing category while following the spelling rules added at each step.

Both modes have eight steps, with the timer resetting to 25 seconds after each correct answer. Everyone plays the same daily challenges, and each mode has its own global leaderboard.

Daily Challenges and Practice

Word Pileup has 768 different daily word ladders and 256 separate practice ladders. Daily ladders repeat after 768 days unless more are added. Every final set of spelling rules has at least 16 familiar answers.

Category Trail uses preset categories and conditions to generate challenges. Each prompt has at least four accepted standard answers.

The game is still in playtesting. Although challenges are checked to make sure they can be completed, that doesn't guarantee every one will feel balanced or enjoyable. Player feedback will help improve the difficulty and expand the accepted answers.

Leaderboards

Daily attempts are timed on the server and count toward a shared leaderboard. The leaderboard starts empty and fills as players complete their runs.

Access to the game depends on the site's hosting settings. The global leaderboard does not automatically make a private preview available to everyone.
